Collaborative Deputy Mayor

Jo served as Deputy Mayor of Kingborough from 2018 to 2022.

“I’m really proud of what council delivered during the time I served as Deputy Mayor. It marked a real turning point for Kingborough and the proactive approach taken by Council during that four year term is very evident today.

I have proven experience delivering results for the community and a strong understanding of local government and community issues.

I led a council that worked together to deliver practical outcomes.

Together we built Tasmania’s best playground at Kingston Park and prioritised investment in improving roads, footpaths, public toilets, playgrounds and tracks and trails.

A new kerbside green waste collection service was introduced and we designed, funded and started the rebuild of the Kingston CBD. Additional funding was allocated to graffiti removal.

We introduced a new Long Term Financial Plan that capped rate rises in line with inflation and kept total rate rises over the four-year period from 2019-20 to 2022-23 at 12.4 per cent (compared to 26.8 per cent in the four years to 2026-27).

During this time, Council successfully advocated for major infrastructure to support growth and worked collaboratively with the Tasmanian Government to reduce congestion through initiatives such as the Huntingfield and Firthside park and rides.

Jo was Chair of the Kingborough Community Safety Committee from 2018 to 2022.
